Decorating The White House For Christmas On Tv

It's the most wonderful time of the year, which means many homes—including the White House (despite the current first lady's-er-thoughts on holiday decorating)—are fully decked out in the most festive Christmas decor. Of course, an invite to the most famous home in the United States isn't as easy to come by as, say, one to your grandparents' house, but you're in luck: HGTV is set to air its annual White House Christmas special on Sunday, December 13th at 6 p.m. ET/PT, so you don't even have to leave your couch to take in the splendor of this year's decorations. Count us in!

Just last week, First Lady Melania Trump welcomed the White House Christmas tree for the last time, as it arrived in a horse-drawn carriage led by two Clydesdales. Since then, Melania took to Twitter to unveil her merry decorations under this year's theme: "America the Beautiful." The First Lady took a traditional route this year, decorating trees in monochromatic color palettes of red and gold, as seen in the above video. In years past, the White House Christmas decorations under Melania Trump have sparked much discussion, especially in 2017 and 2018, following very eerie design choices that drew comparisons to horror movies. But both this year and last year, the decor strikes a balance of conventional and cheerful.

HGTV's White House Christmas 2020 is not the first time the People's House has made its appearance on the famed network. This is an annual special that began a couple of years ago, allowing viewers the opportunity to experience the magic of the White House at Christmastime, without having to go anywhere at all! And you might notice a familiar voice narrating this year: Alison Victoria, star of HGTV's Windy City Rehab and Flipping Across America .

Not only does this year's special explore the current White House Christmas decorations, it's also a retrospective on the decor of Christmases past, specifically the last decade of holiday metamorphoses at the White House. And there is much more to see than just the beautifully decorated trees—you will also discover the gingerbread version of the White House, which includes the Rose Garden and the First Ladies' Garden for the very first time this year, in addition to the East Wing, the Executive Residence, and the West Wing. While we can't say that we have a gingerbread version of our own house, we will surely be tuning in to see both the actual White House and its miniature version on HGTV!
